Watch the Recreation of History: The Nissan Patrol Simpson Desert Crossing

A one-hour documentary on the first crossing of Australia’s Simpson Desert by a motor vehicle, and Nissan’s recreation of that momentous journey 50 years later, will air nationally on Network Ten this Sunday (30 Sept) at 1pm.

The documentary, filmed and produced by four-wheel-drive expert and film maker Pat Callinan, paints a vivid picture of the original record-breaking journey by Reg Sprigg, his wife Griselda and their children Marg and Doug, completed in a Nissan Patrol G60.

The story is told against the backdrop of the repeat journey staged in July this year, with Marg and Doug driving a restored G60 amongst a group of modern day Y61 Patrols to commemorate the original crossing.

A special Nissan Patrol iPad app will also capture the stories of the Simpson Crossing anniversary, including behind the scenes articles, images and videos from the journey, as well as a detailed history of the Patrol that includes past product brochures.

Please check local television guides for confirmation of broadcast times. The Nissan Patrol iPad app will be available to download from the iTunes App Store from 1 October 2012.
