UAE Supreme Council Elects Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed President Of UAE

The Supreme Council of the Federation of United Arab Emirates (UAE) unanimously elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE.

The council held a meeting at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and ruler of Dubai.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said: “Under Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was unanimously elected president of the UAE, succeeding the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”

The members of the Supreme Council affirmed the Federation’s keenness to fulfill the original values and principles laid down by the late founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which established the UAE’s position at the regional and global levels and enhanced its various national achievements.

The council expressed its “full confidence that the people of the UAE will remain, as Zayed and the founders always wanted, a faithful guardian of the Union and its achievements at all levels”.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him by his brothers in the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, saying that he hoped that Allah will grant him success and help him serve his country and the loyal people of the UAE.
