MoonWalk, A “Giant Step” In Refinish: PPG

PPG launched its MoonWalk colour dispenser last month in Madrid to a select group of clients and some of the European press. PPG says MoonWalk reduces product waste, maximises workshop productivity and will revolutionise the operation of body shops.

PPG says it took the company three years to develop the paint colour preparation machine, with the aim of reducing labour-intensive times and save product through automation of the mixing process.

“Less waste, more productive working time, no mess in the mixing room. That immediately gives more efficiency, quality, productivity and satisfied employees to every damage repair company,” said MoonWalk Project Manager Alban d’Epenoux, who is also Refinish Sales Manager at PPG CEMTA (Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Turkey and Africa).

The standard package includes a TouchMix computer with the most recent PaintManager software, an “ultra-accurate” scale and a label printer. Installation, training and a three-year warranty on the mixing machine and support are also provided. The use of materials is optimised thanks to the PPG drip-free, accurate mixing method, while the mixed varnish is immediately ready for use.

Axalta Opens Its Largest Refinish Training Centre In India

Axalta has opened its largest and most advanced refinish training centre, spread over 20,000 square feet (nearly 2,000 square metres) in India. The state-of-the-art training facility was inaugurated by Sobers Sethi, President, Emerging Markets, Axalta. The company now has four dedicated training facilities in India.

“The opening of this new training facility demonstrates the confidence we have in the opportunities for growth in India,” said Sethi. “The coatings industry, especially waterborne coatings, in India has been growing at a rapid pace. The new refinish training facility will provide our customers with the most advanced painting techniques to help them be more efficient, productive, and profitable. And, we are helping our customers drive these improvements while being mindful of the environment with sustainable techniques and products. Our customers’ success is our success and we are proud to be the refinish leader in India and around the world.”

Axalta says it expects to train approximately 1000 technicians at the new training centre this year. Customers will use the company’s latest coating technologies, as well as industry-leading training techniques and advanced digital tools. Axalta says it will also demonstrate the most advanced spraying application systems that use less energy and reduce waste, have fast-drying finishes, and use superior colour matching technologies. Through this centre, the company says customers in India can stay on the cutting-edge of coating technologies and techniques that are designed to deliver benefits to their businesses immediately and for the long-term.

The training centre is also equipped with an advanced virtual reality (VR) training room, digital colour matching tool, and an online training facility for customers that cannot be physically present at the centre. Axalta says the VR training duplicates the paint spraying activity and experience, and enables customers to gain the benefits of the training without actually using the paint material.

BASF Automotive Refinish Launches New Website

BASF Refinish Automotive Coatings launched a new, completely mobile-friendly website with updated images and content, and unique tools, including an asset cart and an advanced product catalogue.

“Every word, every image and every tool on the Refinish site was created with the customer in mind,” said Tina Nelles, BASF Marketing Services manager. “Our goal was to create a journey for our customers – how BASF provides more than paint and, most importantly, the benefits we offer to our customers.”

Users can filter the product catalogue based on country, brand, paint system, product type, volatile organic compounds, and keywords, or they can simply scroll through BASF’s products. The site also includes technical manuals, technical data sheets, safety data sheets and more.

The distinctive asset cart, which can be used in conjunction with the product catalogue or independently, offers a unique advantage to BASF Refinish website visitors by allowing them to “shop” throughout the site. Visitors can add assets to the cart from anyplace in the website, not just from product pages, similar to a shopping cart on a clothing or grocery retailer’s website. Customers then have the option to download all cart contents or email them to anyone.

Available in three languages, the new site also features a section dedicated to showcasing BASF Refinish customers and brand ambassadors, the recently launched Vision+ suite of business services and live social media feeds.
