Meguiar’s MotorEx is back, showcasing a gathering of custom, classic and performance cars on the weekend of 11 and 12 May at the Melbourne Showgrounds, Ascot Vale. BodyShop News has six weekend passes to give away.

Across 40,000 square metres, over 700 vehicles with a combined value of over $50 million dollars will fill the showgrounds for an action-packed schedule across the festival weekend. With 30,000 people expected to flood though the gates, organisers say it’s going to be massive.

Famed industry celebrities are booking their flights across the oceans to be part of MotorEx. West Coast Customs owner and star of “Pimp My Ride”, Ryan Friedlinghaus, is bringing a never-seen-before build, while South End Kustoms owner Keith ‘Kid’ Dean will be sharing his expertise, including a custom car chop master class.

Skid Factory is one of the largest Australian YouTube modification series, with stars Al and Woody organising a huge meet-up at MotorEx for fans and to show off three different Skid Factory builds.

The Meguiar’s Superstars are the undisputed kings of the Australian show car scene. The stand-alone exhibit will be a jaw-dropping spectacle, as will be the House of Kolor Unveils with the revealing of the most incredible never-seen-before builds, all in a custom House of Kolor spray.

The Street Machine Hall of Fame is back – bigger than ever – showcasing some of the most iconic old-school race cars including Dick Johnson’s Greens’ Tuf Falcon, John French’s iconic Bryan Byrt XY GTHO, Murray Carter’s legendary XY and more. For JDM fans, the GT-R 50th year anniversary celebration exhibit will host some of the best GT-Rs in the country.

MotorEx is giving attendees the rare chance to feast their eyes on the most iconic concept cars in Australian history. From the priceless 2008 Holden Coupe 60 to the outrageous Holden Hurricane, these creations proudly showcase Aussie talent and engineering know-how.

Real Street is another addition to MotorEx, with a special opportunity for car owners to be directly involved in the show. Hundreds of owners of beautiful street cars converge on MotorEx each day, adding a huge depth and variety of cars for attendees to walk around and admire.

MotorEx is also taking action to the next level. Due to “overwhelming demand”, Australia’s best drifters and their customised rockets will again be thrilling crowds with regular sideways demonstrations across the weekend. Ticket holders can also sign up to Drift Cadet, booking in for the wild drift ride of a lifetime. If you are craving more horsepower, the VCM/Mainline Dyno will be on-site testing engines to their limits, while burnout beast engine start-ups will rock the showgrounds.

The automotive aftermarket industry is a key feature of Meguiar’s MotorEx and a unique opportunity for businesses, headlined by a selection of automotive aftermarket companies direct from the world’s largest automotive trade show SEMA. Adding to this is the Performance Garage, where more than 100 aftermarket suppliers will showcase their latest products, technology and services to an engaged, targeted audience.

MotorEx is also hosting the VCM MotorEx Seminar Series, which brings together a variety of industry presenters and topics in 12 exclusive sessions over the weekend, free to all ticket holders, along with the Flying Spanners competition for TAFEs and other training institutes to encourage the next generation of automotive apprentices.

Meguiar’s MotorEx Looking Forward To Big Event

Meguiar’s MotorEx, to be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on 11-12 May, says it will showcase the best the automotive aftermarket industry has to offer, along with some of the country’s “finest” show cars and performance machinery.

The event is also expected to feature drifting demonstrations, dyno sessions, automotive celebrities, gourmet food vendors and live music, as well as a new initiative, the VCM MotorEx Seminar Series, where a group of industry experts will present a variety of topics in 12 sessions.

In addition, Flying Spanners – an initiative of Summernats/MotorEx – will pit teams of apprentice mechanics from TAFE and other training providers against each other and the clock as they strip and rebuild an engine.

“The skill and passion of automotive technicians and the aftermarket industry underpins events like MotorEx and Summernats. Our events are unique platforms to contribute to foster the future of the industry,” said Andy Lopez, MotorEx and Summernats co-owner.

To further attract and inspire the next generation of automotive technicians, MotorEx says it will offer automotive trade apprentices half price entry to the event using the promotional code ‘APPRENTICE’.

Meguiar’s MotorEx To Stay In Melbourne For 2019

After a record breaking Meguiar’s MotorEx 18 in Melbourne, event owners Out There Productions today announced that the show will stay in Melbourne. MotorEx will celebrate its 19th birthday at the Melbourne Showgrounds on 11-12 May, 2019.

Meguiar’s MotorEx, traditionally held in Sydney, came to Melbourne for the first time in 2014, and alternated between the two cities until today’s announcement.

“Our original plan was to head back to Sydney, and we said as much at the end of the 2018 show. However, the argument to stay in Melbourne has become undeniable. We’ve been able to create a real festival atmosphere, with drifting, music, 4WD demos and freestyle motocross which brings additional colour and noise to the event,” said Andy Lopez, co-owner of MotorEx.

“On top of that, over 400 cars in Real Street showed off the passion in Melbourne’s scene. Also, the SEMA guys are coming back and that’s a fantastic vote of confidence,” said Lopez.

Business is also supportive of the move to stay in Melbourne. Dyno sponsor Mario Pancione of VCM Performance said: “We had a huge weekend and were slammed the entire time. MotorEx is a great way to expose your business to both trade and customers in an effective and affordable way. We’re happy the show is staying in Melbourne.”

Bruce Morrison, MotorActive Managing Director, took Meguiar’s MotorEx to Melbourne for the first time in 2014 and has welcomed the change.

“The car hobby is huge in Melbourne and includes fantastic businesses and a lot of growth opportunities. To the enthusiasts in Sydney, NSW and across Australia, put MotorEx on your annual calendar. It’s grown in leaps and bounds in Melbourne and is well worth the trip,” said Morrison.

The Meguiar’s MotorEx team will be upping the ante in 2019. Lopez said: “We’re going to bring more cars, more businesses, and more enthusiasts to MotorEx next year in Melbourne. Plus, we’re on the Mother’s Day weekend so we want to see more mums and families on Sunday in particular.”

A total of 29,665 fans descended on the Melbourne Showgrounds in May this year to see more than 700 cars, Australia’s leading aftermarket suppliers, traders from SEMA, celebrities and more as part of Meguiar’s MotorEx 18.

This is an important part of 3M’s continued commitment to inspiration and innovation in the Aussie automotive aftermarket industry.

“Chip is Global Brand Ambassador for 3M, and it’s exciting that he’s coming to Australia and sharing his passion. It’s important to 3M that Chip gets the chance to interact with apprentices, fans and businesses in Melbourne, and that’s exactly what he’s going to do at Meguiar’s MotorEx,” said Andrew King, Business Manager of 3M ANZ Automotive Aftermarket Division.

Chip Foose is just one part of the program that will set the Melbourne Showgrounds alight in May at Meguiar’s MotorEx. Through a partnership with SEMA, 30 US companies are joining over 100 Australian businesses in Performance Garage, a world full of aftermarket, performance and racing industry exhibitors and vehicles.

At the heart of the event are 300 of the craziest custom and modified cars in the country, worth over $40 million dollars. There’s also the Meguiar’s Superstars, House of Kolor Inauguration which sees the unveiling of never seen before custom creations and the Street Machine Hall of Fame display.
