Steer Automotive Group Takes Over UK Gemini Accident Repair Centres

The UK’s Steer Automotive Group has acquired the country’s Gemini Accident Repair Centres. Effective 1 July 2024, the sale included all 37 UK Gemini sites, plus Gemini’s head office, expanding Steer’s footprint from Edinburgh to Cornwall.

Gemini will maintain its brand and retain staff, management, and leadership teams, with Managing Director Dave Sargeant and Finance Director Phil Coleman will also joining the Steer leadership team, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of service. Only Gemini founder and former CEO Tim Hopkins is moving on.

“We are proud to welcome Gemini’s exceptional team into the Steer family,” said Richard Steer, Chief Executive of Steer Automotive Group. “Gemini’s innovative repair proposition and steadfast dedication to outstanding service have set an industry benchmark. Their business model, which consistently delivers top-tier service to their valued clients, will greatly enhance our operational capabilities. This acquisition strengthens our commitment to service excellence across the UK, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the automotive repair sector and continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

Gemini said joining the Steer Automotive Group was the “next logical step” as part of Steer’s expansion plans, and an “incredible opportunity” to be part of the largest body shop group across Europe.

“These are exciting times as we enter a new era, and I am proud of this alliance,” said Sargeant. “This transaction unites two leading businesses, enhancing our repair capabilities across the UK. It significantly broadens Steer’s presence and I look forward to working with Richard Steer and the team. I thank Tim for an incredibly successful 15 years, during which we grew the business from a single site to 37. We at Gemini wish him all the best.”

Hopkins praised his team and Steer. “I am proud to announce the sale of Gemini to the Steer Group. Both Gemini and Steer are amazing businesses but together they are world class,” he said.

“For me, it’s time to hang my spray gun up after a fantastic 30 years working in the industry and focus on my other businesses. I wish Richard Steer, Dave Sargeant, Phil Coleman and all the Gemini team every success with this new and exciting opportunity.”
