Sherwin-Williams Appoints President/COO, Group Presidents

The Sherwin-Williams Company’s Board of Directors has elected Heidi Petz as President and Chief Operating Officer, effective 1 March 2022. Petz will be responsible for all of Sherwin-Williams’ operating segments which includes The Americas Group, the Performance Coatings Group, and the Consumer Brands Group, in addition to the Global Supply Chain organisation. She will continue reporting to John Morikis who remains Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. 

Petz has held many key leadership positions since joining the company in connection with the acquisition of Valspar in June 2017. In 2021 she became President of The Americas Group after serving as Sherwin-Williams’ Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2020. Petz also held leadership roles in the Consumer Brands Group from 2017 to 2020, including Group President, President & General Manager Retail North America, and Senior Vice President Marketing.

Before joining Sherwin-Williams, Petz served as Vice President of Marketing, Consumer Business at Valspar for four years after spending 15 years in marketing, sales and finance leadership roles at Newell Rubbermaid, Target Corporation, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

NEW PRESIDENTS FOR AMERICAS, PERFORMANCE COATINGS

Sherwin-Williams also announced the election of Justin Binns as President, The Americas Group, and Karl Jorgenrud as President, Performance Coatings Group.  Both positions will report to Petz and are also effective 1 March 2022.

Binns joined Sherwin-Williams in 1997 as a sales associate and since 2020 has served as President, Performance Coatings Group. From 2018 to 2020, Binns was President & General Manager, Automotive Finishes Division, Performance Coatings Group. He also served as President & General Manager, Eastern Division, The Americas Group from 2016 to 2018, and Vice President of Area Sales, The Americas Group from 2014 to 2016.

Jorgenrud joined Sherwin-Williams in June 2017 as part of the acquisition of Valspar, where he began his career in June 1994. Jorgenrud has served as President & General Manager, General Industrial Division, Performance Coatings Group since 2020. He previously served as President & General Manager, Protective & Marine Division, Performance Coatings Group from 2017 to 2019. He also held several leadership roles at Valspar before Sherwin-Williams’ acquisition of the company.

“Justin and Karl are proven leaders with strong records of success running multiple businesses in our company,” Morikis said. “Justin brings 25 years of Sherwin-Williams experience to his new role, 20 of which were spent in The Americas Group, including leading the Eastern Division. He is highly prepared to serve as President of The Americas Group, with extensive knowledge of our paint stores, products and services, and a deep understanding of customer needs across our various architectural end markets.

“Karl is also highly qualified for his new role with 27 years of experience in the global industrial paint and coatings industry. Since joining Sherwin-Williams in 2017 through the Valspar acquisition, he has run two of our largest and most complex global industrial businesses, making him an ideal candidate to lead the entire Performance Coatings Group. I am highly confident both of these wonderful leaders will continue to execute our strategy, accelerate growth, and drive profitability while delivering the solutions our customers have come to expect.”
