PPG has inaugurated a centre of excellence to help OEMs create new colours following a €2.3 million investment in its European production, innovation and styling site at Quattordio, Italy.
The centre combines colour development and application in a single process, offering benefits such as reduced lead times to bring new colours to market, optimised costs and maximised colour performance.
The facility is equipped with artificial intelligence tools that will be used in the colour development and quality control processes. These include a statistical and machine learning tool that can reduce the number of colour adjustment steps, reducing costs and overall cycle-time during the development of basecoats and coloured products.
