After sweeping across Europe, the revolutionary PPG MoonWalk automated mixing technology has arrived in Australia, with the first units already being installed.
In the context of enhancing paint shop productivity and reducing wastage, the PPG MoonWalk colour dispenser is being considered an exciting advancement in the industry.
The company said collision centre operators across Europe, the Middle East and Africa have already recognised the potential of the advanced new technology, with hundreds of MoonWalk units installed since it was launched 18 months ago. PPG Australia said MoonWalk has been so popular that it has taken until now for it to begin securing stock for the Australian market, but units are now set to be installed in PPG’s network of training centres and at the first local repair shops.
MoonWalk’s compact packaging has been deliberately sized to fit neatly into a typical paint mixing room, though many European collision repairers have chosen to display the units where customers can see them to project an industry-leading image.
Inside is everything the self-contained automated mixing system needs, including a dispensing rack, storage for 80 tinters, a RapidMatch GO spectrophotometer, a set of ultra-accurate scales, a built-in computer loaded with PaintManager XI and a label printer.
PPG says that after downloading a ‘spectro’ reading and selecting the appropriate colour formulation, it takes just a single click to have MoonWalk create a ready-to-spray mix. The company says every mix is “incredibly precise” regardless of the amount of tinter required, and as it is a set and forget process, painters are free to do what they do best – paint.
As well as boosting paint shop productivity, PPG says MoonWalk can reduce waterborne tinter consumption thanks to its “incredibly accurate” mixes. With the productivity improvements, high colour mixing accuracy and the reduction of waste and reworks, PPG says MoonWalk can provide a return-on-investment sooner rather than later.
