IBIS Stamps Its Mark With Debut ASEAN Conference

The premiere IBIS ASEAN thought leadership conference for the regional collision repair sector has been hailed a resounding success by its speakers, sponsors, the more than 180 delegates in attendance, and the many hundreds more watching the IBIS TV livestream broadcast.

The International Bodyshop Industry Symposium’s all-day event, which was held on 16 March alongside Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2023 in Malaysia, featured a packed agenda designed to tackle the regional challenges and consider market opportunities under the 2023 IBIS theme of “Sustainable Strategies for Success”.

Among the many valuable highlights enjoyed by the delegates – more than 30 per cent of whom came from the Malaysian and regional insurance sector – were interviews conducted by IBIS CEO Jason Moseley with Jim Muse, Global Vice-President of Sales at Axalta, and Chris Chesney, Vice-President of Training & Organisational at Repairify, who participated live from Philadelphia and Puerto Rico respectively.

These were followed by presentations and panel discussions involving Steve Miller, CEO of MRC Malaysia; Benedict Ngieng of Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis; Benildus Saw from Justicia Adjusters; Devindran Ramanathan of ACS Pentas; and Charlie Ting from ControlExpert Malaysia.

In IBIS fashion, the thought leadership content was interspersed with multiple networking breaks and opportunities to interact with the event’s major sponsors – 3M, Axalta, Repairify and Motordata Research Consortium.

Following lunch, Jason Scharton, Senior Manager Global Expertise Delivery at 3M Collision, discussed ‘Process and Procedure in Repair Planning’. He then was  joined on stage by John Yap of AAW Solutions, Wai Kwong Kong from Ipoh Soo Kee Motor, and Daniel Loh Hock Yew of Top Diversified, for a fascinating panel discussion moderated by BodyShop News Publisher and CEO Michel Malik.

To round out the day, Antony Lee Fook Weng, Chairman and Non-Independent Director of PIAM in Malaysia, delivered an insightful keynote address looking at the current industry landscape in the Association of South East Asian Nations region. He spoke about insurance and repair sector influences and pressures, what changes are coming, and what the future challenges will be.
