IAG Appoints Robert Cutler As Group General Counsel

Insurance giant IAG has appointed Robert Cutler as the company’s Group General Counsel, filling the void created by the sudden departure of Peter Horton in December last year.

Cutler joins IAG after a 33-year career with Clayton Utz, including six years as Chief Executive Partner and board member. He was also a director of the not-for-profit Clayton Utz Foundation.

“I welcome the contribution that Robert will make to our leadership team, and IAG,” said Nick Hawkins, Managing Director and CEO at IAG. “In addition to his legal career, he has extensive governance experience as a member of various boards and has advised on regulatory and risk management matters for private and public organisations.”

Cutler is a former member of the Business Council of Australia’s Economic Policy & Competitiveness Committee and Regulatory & Compliance Committee. He is a member of the Law Society of NSW and a Federal Government BoardLinks Champion, who advocate and publicly promote the Government’s gender diversity initiative.

Cutler takes over the Group General Counsel role after IAG sacked Horton in late 2023, with Hawkins claiming Horton’s behaviour fell short of the expectations in IAG’s employee code of ethics and conduct. Karen Ingram then served as interim Group General Counsel.
