I-CAR Australia Offers Free Online Electric Vehicle Safety Course

As part of I-CAR’s global initiative to prepare and support the industry for the shift to electric vehicles (EV), the organisation has made its online course, ‘Understanding High Voltage Safety’, available to everyone for free.

I-CAR Australia said the 45-minute course covers the major parts of an electric vehicle high voltage system, high voltage safety measures in vehicle design, and methods to reduce shock risks. It introduces elements of electricity and relationship between voltage, current and resistance with high voltage systems. The course also explores the effects of electricity on the body and the required PPE when working around such situations.

“The growth in EVs appearing in the market will also see a rise in such vehicles appearing in collision repair businesses,” the organisation said in a statement.

“Technicians will be expected to have a thorough understanding in the reprogramming of vehicle software, coding and repairing high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems. With safety for both the technician and in the repair being paramount, I-CAR Australia invites anyone and everyone to this free course and encourages the collision repair industry to be prepared for the future that is EV.”
