David B Sewell, Sherwin-Williams President And COO, Resigns

The Sherwin-Williams Company has announced the resignation of President and Chief Operating Officer David B Sewell, effective at the close of business on 12 March. Sewell will become President and Chief Executive Officer of paper and packaging company WestRock.

“We thank David for his many contributions to Sherwin-Williams over his 14 years with the company, and we wish him much success in his future endeavours,” said John G Morikis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sherwin-Williams. “Our deep and experienced global team continues to move forward with great momentum, focused on delivering solutions to our customers and executing on initiatives that will drive sustained long-term success.”

Sherwin-Williams said the Chief Operating Officer role will not be filled immediately. Morikis will serve as President in addition to his current role and assume Sewell’s primary duties and responsibilities.

Sewell joined Sherwin-Williams as Vice President of Marketing in February 2007 and became Vice President of Sales in October 2009. He was promoted to President and General Manager of the Product Finishes Division in August 2012. Two years later Sewell became President of the Performance Coatings Group and was named President and Chief Operating Officer in March 2019.
