AXA XL Makes Key Appointments In Australia And Asia

AXA XL Insurance has announced the promotion of Catherine Carlyon to Country Manager, Australia, effective 1 August, and the appointment of Gilles Fromageot as Regional Manager, Asia, effective 1 September.

Carlyon will lead overall insurance operations and drive AXA XL’s ‘go-to-market’ strategy in Australia, which the company says is the third largest market by gross written premium for AXA XL’s APAC & Europe business unit. Based in Sydney, Carlyon will report to Xavier Veyry, CEO APAC & Europe.

Fromageot will be responsible for leading AXA XL’s growth plan and strengthening its market presence in Asia, including AXA XL’s current operations in Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. Based in Singapore, he also will report to Veyry.

“When making these appointments, I was looking for talents with extensive domestic and international experience,” Veyry said. “We all know Asia-Pacific is not a monolithic market; in fact, the countries are incredibly diverse in terms of economy, business and culture.

“I have full confidence that both Catherine and Gilles, and the teams they will lead, have the expertise, experience and, importantly, the mindset to ensure we succeed in Australia and Asia. Their appointments reflect AXA XL’s continued commitment to investing in the best talent to support our clients and brokers.”

Carlyon has led AXA XL’s claims team in APAC since 2017 after joining AXA XL in 2005. Prior to her regional role, Carlyon was Chief of Staff for Global Claims, and before that worked in Global Claims Management for 10 years. Prior to joining AXA XL, Carlyon spent a decade with KPMG as a chartered accountant, covering accounting and consulting on organisational, finance and process matters with insurance companies, during which time she lived and worked in the UK, Australia, and the US.

Fromageot joins AXA XL from AXA Korea, where he held the position of President & CEO. Previously, he has had various executive roles in France, Spain and Korea. In addition to his role in Korea, Fromageot has been a member of the board of AXA Japan GI for six years and is currently serving as Non-Executive Director at AXA Tianping in China. Before joining AXA in 2007, Fromageot was an auditor and consultant at French firm Mazars.

AXA XL said Craig Langham will step down as Regional Leader, APAC and interim Country Manager, Australia, but remain as Senior Advisor for Australia until the end of this year to ensure a smooth transition.
