Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Becomes An Annual Event

Messe Frankfurt has announced that Automechanika Kuala Lumpur will be held annually from 2024. Previously held biennially, the next show will take place from 1 to 3 August at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

“The decision for Automechanika Kuala Lumpur to become an annual event was based on feedback from government bodies, industry associations, exhibitors and visitors,” said Fiona Chiew, General Manager at Messe Frankfurt (HK). “Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 was a reoccurring theme in our extensive discussions, where the EV sector is set to play a critical role over the medium to long term. Therefore, with all corners of our network converging at the show, I believe we can navigate these changes together.”

According to Messe Frankfurt, the change reflects the growing global focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and solutions for mobility and logistics across the automotive industry.

“Automechanika Kuala Lumpur will continue to offer opportunities for marketing, training, information sharing and business exchange. However, it will do so at a much faster and more frequent rate,” added Chiew. “It mirrors the speed at which the automotive industry is evolving. Participants can expect to see the latest innovations making their way to the local market, while Malaysian companies can benefit from the show’s network across ASEAN. This will ultimately contribute to the country’s growing influence in the regional automotive supply chain.”

Messe Frankfurt said specialised zones at the upcoming show will feature themes centring on the transformation of repair and maintenance, as well as parts, manufacturing, accessories and customising. These include:

  • The new Mobility & Logistics Solutions Zone will dive into the latest provisions for urban development, city planning and smart mobility. The zone will feature solutions heavily driven by electrification and digitalisation that create supply chain efficiency, greater customer satisfaction and a sustainable future.
  • The Auto Repair, Maintenance & Care / Accessories & Customising Zone will feature lubricants, diagnostics technology, specialised equipment and tools for mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance, car washing, detailing, and customisation.
  • The Commercial Vehicle & Fleet Zone will cater to traditional commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks, and introduce other types like motorcycles, cars and light vehicles. The additional coverage comes in response to the growing demand for e-commerce, ridesharing and food delivery services, in addition to the transformation of B2B and B2C operations.

Each zone will be paired with a related fringe event, aiming to create an industry-wide dialogue in Malaysia and ASEAN.

Other activities such as autoFEST@KL will return with a stronger line-up of events. Messe Frankfurt said the format continues to attract a wide scope of visitors to the show, allowing exhibitors to expand conversations with buyers. In addition to a series of activities such as the Auto NITZ Music Party and DIY Workshops, Automechanika Kuala Lumpur will extend the EMMA Malaysia showcase by exhibiting a new range of motorsports and classic cars in 2024.
